Quilts have long been treasured possessions. I know that I treasure each and every quilt that I have ever made. I bet you're no different.
I came across this snippet of interest in an old "Homespun diary and thought that I would share it with you.
" In Shakespeare's day, one's bed quilt was considered such a valuable item that it was often mentioned in a person's will. A home usually had two sets of quilts and bed furnishings - one for show and used only by guests, and one for daily use. In a gesture of questionable affection, Shakespeare bequeathed to his wife the second - best quilt set, together with the matrimonial bed and all the side curtains and other furnishings. Interesting it was probably his wife who made all the textiles for the bed in the first place"
Hummm...has anyone mentioned their quilts in their will? I know that I have certain quilts that I enjoy seeing my family use on a day to day basis. Other quilts I have tucked away for special occasions. Come to think of it I also have some quilts tucked away that are considered too special for anything! Kind of defeats the purpose of making them in the first place. Although I'd like to think that I'm preserving them for future generations.
Until next time.
